A ‘non-techies’ journey to the world’s leading luxury fashion tech business

I had the amazing opportunity of interviewing Victoria A, a fellow ‘woman in tech’ with a non-traditional tech background. Vikki candidly shares her ‘non-techie’ journey into one of the world’s most cutting edge, luxury fashion e-commerce retailers. Victoria sits at the heart of the technology division, working in Portfolio Management, a far cry from her legal days. Before landing in the world of high, luxury fashion, she notably played a role in the digitisation of the UK government through her time in consulting.

As highlighted in my previous note, I think it’s important to share our unique pathways, especially where the road less travelled was taken. Like me, Vikki studied law with the aim of one day being a solicitor. By the time Victoria was ready to secure a training contract, the global economy was still recovering after the 2008 ‘Credit Crunch’, making things challenging for any soon to be graduate. As with most things in life, things worked out. From getting a taste of what a career in tech could look like, from her time in financial services to upskilling through consulting and then moving in-house to an e-commerce retailer, let’s take a trip down Vikki’s memory lane.

What made you change your career from law to consulting to tech?
