As we’ve already explored, Femtech is still budding and as with anything, there are lots of misconceptions around what ‘Femtech’ is. ‘Femtech’ is broad enough to encapsulate anything relating to women’s health from fitness devices to more nuanced and discrete innovations. Naturally, fertility is one of the first things that springs to mind for many when thinking of Femtech. This could be due to the obvious physiological differences between man and woman and the history of socialisation and medicine, that makes women’s health centred around child conception.

It’s reported that approximately 1 out of 8 couples struggle to conceive. The TTC ‘trying-to-conceive’ journey can be long, arduous and emotionally taxing, let alone costly. In 2021, $15.74 billion dollars was spent on fertility treatment globally. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports equal and equitable access to fertility care remains a challenge in most countries; particularly in low and middle-income countries. Fertility care is rarely prioritised in national universal health coverage benefit packages.

Thank you for the wonderful feedback and outreach since my last article on ‘What is Femtech & why I’m investing in a trillion dollar industry…’. Today, I’m introducing you to the startup, Fertilitae, the Femtch startup that’s solving pressing issues within the fertility wellness and reproductive health space through automation and personalisation.
